From Windsor to Wiltshire: a new home for the Household Cavalry

New mess completed at Bulford for Household Cavalry & Mercian Regiments

Aspire Defence recently completed one million construction hours for the Army Basing Programme (ABP) at Bulford, where we’ve created a new home for the Household Cavalry Regiment here in Wiltshire.

The HCR (Armoured) is relocating from Windsor to Bulford, as part of a wider programme of rebasing moves which started on 1st June. In total, around 4,000 personnel are returning from Germany this summer, alongside 1,300 military families. In addition, there are a number of Units moving within the UK.

One of the most significant buildings handed over at Bulford is a brand-new shared Mess, which will provide dining and social areas for senior ranks of both the HCR and The Mercian Regiment.

The Mess is extensive and contains bars, kitchen and dining areas, each constructed to high standards using quality materials. It is surrounded by natural landscape and parking areas. Soldiers’ accommodation blocks are located to both sides of the building, with easily accessible routes to the wider camp.

The HCR will also benefit from modern, purpose-built technical assets at Bulford, including training buildings, workshops, enhanced garaging and regimental headquarters.

The construction of the Mess and accommodation blocks was a real technical challenge and the build program had to be extended to accommodate this. But no compromise was given on the overall quality and compliance that ABP demands, and we now have buildings of which we are immensely proud.
