ADSL manages on behalf of the MOD approximately 40,000 trees and 22 woodland areas totalling 307 hectares spread over 1093 hectares.
Tree management forms an element of the wider integrated estate facilities management service and the aim is to ensure that a sensible and sustainable balance is maintained between public safety and conservation and that all reasonable measures are taken to comply with contractual, legal and statutory obligations as well as planning conditions.
In delivering this service we aim to add value for the environment and local community.
Wildlife and habitat conservation forms a key part of our tree management, for example creating future wildlife habitats from felled trees, or monoliths – trunks left standing. There is also a focus on optimisation of the use of timber and other products of tree management including recycling of green waste.
Our Tree Surveyors are qualified arboriculturists and carry out regular inspections across the PAC footprint assessing all trees on a five year rolling programme to check their overall health. The results are recorded in Arbortrack software. The collection of data enables the setting of both short and long term strategic management objectives.
Grounds maintenance services include landscaping, grass cutting, leaf collection, weed control, airfield maintenance and sports pitch maintenance.
Tree and Grounds Maintenance services are supported by industry leading experts, Gavin Jones.
