<\/p>\nTo mark Random Act of Kindness Week in February 2018 ADSL\u2019s Aldershot Team hosted a Veteran Tea Dance at Garretts Clubhouse for members of the Local Community.<\/p>\n
The event was hosted in conjunction with Sodexo, Aldershot Garrison, Rushmoor Borough Council and Aldershot Town Football Club with the focus on the lonely and vulnerable.<\/p>\n
There were attendees from across the borough including MHA, a charity who provide care accommodation and support services for over 17,800 older people throughout Britain; Age Concern; the Millstreet, Weybourne, the Senior Citizens Forum and Nepalese Veterans.<\/p>\n
Fifty guests enjoyed afternoon bingo, raffle, tea and cakes, live entertainment and ballroom dancing at The Clubhouse which was decorated by Sodexo with a Great British theme.<\/p>\n
The afternoon was a great hit with our guests. Here are some of their comments.<\/p>\n
\u2018Absolutely wonderful, I thoroughly enjoyed it, all those little touches, they really went to town\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n \u2018I wasn\u2019t too\u00a0good in the morning and didn\u2019t think I should go, but I absolutely loved it, it was fantastic and really made me feel positive\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em>\u2018I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Sitting at home on my own, I can feel lonely and depressed. I had apprehensions about going as it was my late husband\u2019s birthday, but everyone on the Thursday had encouraged me to be with people and it was the best decision I\u2019ve ever made. I had a wonderful time and I wish I could do it more often. I danced, I smiled and I felt years younger. I miss not having anyone to talk to at home and to say what a wonderful afternoon I had experienced \u2013 I couldn\u2019t wait to phone my son in Kent and tell him all about it\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em>\u2018Thank you very much for a lovely afternoon, I feel so alive and felt that people cared.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em>An MHA representative looking back on the event said,<\/p>\n \u2018What an amazing afternoon, that will hold memories for our members forever! You and your team should feel so very proud.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em>Aidan Murphy, ADSL Operations Director, East summed up what the day meant to the organisers.<\/p>\n \u2018This was a real team effort. We wanted to give something back to the community, but when the day was over we found we had gained so much from it.
