On a construction site, the most important decisions are often the ones made in the moment, when someone pauses to double-check a detail, questions whether something feels right, or takes the time to guide a co-worker\u00a0through a task safely.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n

It\u2019s\u00a0these everyday actions that shape not only progress, but the safety,\u00a0confidence,\u00a0and wellbeing\u00a0of everyone on site.\u00a0This is where our value of Safety First really comes to life.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Recognising the importance of this kind of leadership, Aspire Defence Services Limited (ADSL), through its Capital Projects Team\u00a0(CPT),\u00a0has introduced the Black Hat Supervisor programme\u00a0–\u00a0an initiative designed to strengthen frontline supervision across its projects.\u00a0While Black Hat roles have previously existed within Aspire Defence Capital Works, this marks the first time this level of supervision has been formally introduced into Capital Projects delivery at ADSL.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The introduction of the programme reflects how construction across the Capital Projects Team is evolving. Projects are becoming more\u00a0complex,\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0team\u00a0continues to respond to changes\u00a0within the\u00a0Building Safety Act. Now more than ever, strong, visible supervision is essential to manage risk effectively, support teams, and ensure work is carried out safely.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The programme highlights the role supervisors play in setting clear expectations, managing risk, and supporting teams where it matters most: while the work is happening.\u00a0It also reinforces our value of Delivering Together, recognising that safe, successful projects rely on close collaboration between ADSL and its contractors,\u00a0with everyone working to the same clear standard.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The first Black Hat Supervisor\u00a0on a\u00a0CPT\u00a0project\u00a0has now been awarded to Ryan Francis, a Site Manager from\u00a0one of our contractors,\u00a0Beard.\u00a0His recognition marks the beginning of a wider rollout that will see the standard applied across sites.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The programme goes beyond technical competence. It focuses on how supervisors lead day to day,\u00a0how they communicate, how they respond to challenges, and how they ensure work is carried out safely and\u00a0confidently.\u00a0As the closest point of contact for those on the ground, supervisors play a critical role in ensuring Safety First\u00a0remains\u00a0central to every task.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For those living and working on\u00a0the PAC Estate,\u00a0safe, well-managed construction helps ensure that accommodation and infrastructure projects are delivered with care, minimising disruption while supporting the day-to-day lives of soldiers and their families.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ryan\u2019s recognition signals what the programme is designed to achieve. As he noted, he is\u00a0<\/span>\u201clooking forward to setting an example for others to follow\u201d.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0As the scheme expands, that example will play a key role in shaping how teams work together across sites.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With more supervisors expected to be recognised in the coming months, the programme reflects\u00a0CPT\u2019s\u00a0continued commitment to raising standards,\u00a0ensuring that safety, clarity, and strong leadership remain at the heart of every project.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
