Aspire contractors create safer play area for school children

Children at Larkhill Primary School have a safer outdoor space in which to play, thanks to Aspire Defence Capital Works (ADCW) and its subcontractor Dyer & Butler.

Back in April, ADCW was asked by the school governing body to help make safe an area of the playing field which was uneven and strewn with rubble.  The debris had been left on site following other building works carried out at the school.

ADCW and Dyer & Butler were able to release a team of contractors and machinery from Larkhill Garrison, where Army Basing Programme construction works are underway.

The team completed enabling groundworks at the school over a week during the Easter holidays, so as to minimise disruption to staff and children.

The school has since fenced the area and covered it in a rubberised topping, creating a large enclosed space for the Reception class to play safely and separately from older pupils in the main playground.  Other classes are also using the area as a football pitch.

Alan Curtis, Project Manager for ADCW, who liaised with the school throughout works, said:

“As a member of the Considerate Contractors Scheme, ADCW welcomes opportunities to help the communities in which we work and create a positive legacy for construction.  We’re really pleased that the children are enjoying their new play area.”
