Aspire Defence Celebrates An Outstanding Safety Record As Part of its Zero Harm 24/7 Approach
At the end of 2021, five years after construction of the new Army Basing Programme infrastructure under the Project Allenby Connaught (PAC) contract commenced, Aspire Defence Capital Works celebrated 10 million manhours worked with a Lost Time Incident rate of less than one percent.
Since 2016, Aspire Defence Capital Works has delivered 250 New Builds & Refurbishments, 200 Demolitions and 2,600 new bed spaces for soldiers.
Achieving a Lost Time Incident Rate of 0.18, which stands against an industry standard of 1.32, is an outstanding safety record and equates to Zero Harm for 99% of the time spent working on the site.
Commenting on this milestone achievement, Capital Projects Director, Richard Tindal said,
“Reaching 10-million-man hours in 5 years with less than one percent recorded harm could only have been achieved through the collaborative effort of every member of the team upholding the core value of ‘Safety First’ through several initiatives aimed at encouraging staff, partners, and customers to think about how they can protect their health and safety”.
Speaking further on the impact of this mindset, Alan McDonald, Head of Health and Safety for Aspire Defence Services Ltd noted that the company’s health and safety approach is built around what it terms “Zero Harm 24/7” Courage to Care.
“It’s about engaging with our people to instil the belief that “zero” is achievable. That begins by creating a culture that embeds the understanding that the bar can always be raised.
Within our Zero Harm 24/7 approach, we go further than just policies, empowering our staff, contractors, and customers to display the ‘Courage to Care’ approach, looking after one another. Systems and processes are one thing but by adopting a positive safety culture day-in, day-out we can proactively identify and minimise risk.”
Recently, Aspire Defence Services Ltd also achieved a significant milestone when it received the RoSPA Gold award for the 9th consecutive year. The award is in recognition of the organisation’s safety performance and is a testament to all the hard work put into ensuring that “Safety First” becomes more than a watch word or a company value, but a lifestyle.
The company’s safety initiatives emphasise the importance of staying safe while on the job and supports health and wellbeing through monthly campaigns aimed at ensuring employees stay motivated and engaged all year round.
