Devizes MP opens Tidworth Early Years Centre

Tree Tots Nursery is Tidworth officially opened, more than 18 months after the original ceremony was delayed due to Covid restrictions.

The Tree Tots Day Nursery, a purpose-built full day care nursery which accommodates up to 60 children, was constructed by Aspire Defence on behalf of the Army and was completed in early 2020.

Devizes MP Danny Kruger cut the ribbon and unveiled a plaque to mark the opening of building in the presence of guests from the military, DIO, Early Years Trustees, parents of the children attending the nursery and Tidworth’s Mayor Mark Connolly amongst others.

Danny went on to say“ It’s been an honour to open the new Early Years Centre, it’s a joyful place, I was delighted to cut the ribbon.”

Aspire Defence Limited Chief Executive Allan Thomson said he was delighted that the “fantastic facility” was proving so popular with parents and children alike.

He went on to say “ We are delighted that we have at last been able have an official opening of the nursery. The facility benefits the whole community, civilians and service personnel alike. With over 90% of the children who attend the nursery from forces families it contributes to the lived experience for our service personal and their families and its position outside the wire has made it a proper part of the local community.”

The nursery was designed and built under the Army Basing Programme and delivered by KBR Aspire Defence Capital Works and their sub-contractor Brymor. Aspire Defence builds and maintains high quality modern facilities across the Army’s Salisbury Plain garrisons.

Continuing Allan said, ”This nursery is a fabulous place, the children clearly love being here and the staff and truly wonderful. It’s been a great pleasure to be here today. “

During the first lockdown, the facility supported families in isolation by supplying learning packs and food boxes, and offering online yoga sessions, bedtime stories, and singing sessions via their Facebook page.

Now the children can attend in person, for full day sessions. Tree Tots supply snacks, drinks, hot dinners and a cooked tea as part of their support for the working families and proudly stating they “aim to keep their quality childcare as affordable for all families as possible.” Their use of natural resources, sensory play area and passion for outside learning through forest school ethos was seen by many of the guests who enjoyed a tour of the facility.

Nursery manager Shirley said

“ We are very lucky to have such an amazing building, we have grown into our new setting and gaining a good reputation within the community.  We strive to be a home from home to all our children who have had a lot to cope with over the last 18 months by providing a secure base with highly motivated caring staff.”

DIO Programme Director for the Army Warren Webster said:

“I’m thrilled to be in attendance today and finally be able to showcase this first-class early years and nursery education facility. Through our investment in facilities like these, alongside funding for over 1000 additional school places, we are extremely proud of the contribution the ABP has made to education and childcare in Wiltshire. I hope the children and staff continue to enjoy this wonderful setting for many years.”
