For soldiers, the places where they live, work and train play an important role in daily life. A modern headquarters, a well-equipped gym and improved working facilities can have a lasting impact on wellbeing, productivity and the overall experience of military service. 

That is why the start of construction work at Tidworth and Warminster marks an important milestone for the future of the Army estate. 

The projects will deliver new and improved facilities for personnel from 2nd Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment (2 R YORKS), The Royal Lancers, and 1 Medical Regiment. Delivered by Aspire Defence Capital Works (ADCW) on behalf of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), the developments are designed to support unit relocations while enhancing the day-to-day experience of those serving across both sites. 

At Assaye Barracks in Tidworth, following the removal of outdated buildings and site preparation works, construction is now under way on a new Regimental Headquarters for 1 Medical Regiment. Once complete, the facility will help create additional office and working space for The Royal Lancers ahead of their planned move to Tidworth in 2027. New storage facilities have already been delivered at the site as preparations continue. 

Meanwhile, at Battlesbury Barracks in Warminster, significant progress has already been made for 2 R YORKS, who recently relocated from Chester. A refurbished Regimental Headquarters has been completed, while the next phase of construction will bring a new Officers’ Mess, modern Quartermaster facilities and an extension to the gym. Together, these improvements will help create a more functional environment that supports both operational requirements and everyday life. 

These projects represent more than bricks and mortar. They are about creating spaces that reflect the evolving needs of today’s Army and the people who serve within it. 

With completion expected in early 2028, the developments are set to provide lasting benefits for soldiers, helping ensure the Army estate remains fit for the future while supporting those who dedicate their lives to serving the nation.
