Armed Forces Day National Event 2019 – 50 days to go!

Armed Forces Day National Event 2019

KBR Aspire Defence is a platinum sponsor of this year’s Armed Forces Day National Event, which gives us all a chance to recognise and thank our Armed Forces for the vital job they do.

The 50-day countdown has started to this year’s three-day Armed Forces spectacular in Salisbury.

The event takes place from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 June. It promises to be a packed programme of military parades and activities, live entertainment, fly pasts, fireworks and more.

In April, representatives of Wiltshire Council gathered with supporters and sponsors – including platinum sponsor KBR Aspire Defence – in front of County Hall, Trowbridge, to create a ‘human 50’ and celebrate the milestone.

Speaking at the ceremony, Baroness Scott of Bybrook OBE, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said:

“In just 50 days Salisbury will play host to one of the most important dates in the military calendar. We’re a proud military county and we’re looking forward to recognising and celebrating our Armed Forces and the vital role they play. We’ll also be honouring our veterans and welcoming HRH The Princes Royal to Salisbury. This event will be a unique and special event so come and join us.

Saturday 29 June is Armed Forces Day nationally, which will be marked in Salisbury with a military parade through the city centre, expected to be watched by thousands of people.

Sunday focuses on veterans and young people – those who have served and those who may serve – with a commemoration and drumhead service, supported by the Royal British Legion, with the Bishop of Salisbury and padres leading the service. There will also be the opportunity to help create a beautiful human poppy in the main arena.

Celebrations begin on Monday 24 June when the Armed Forces Day flag will be raised on buildings and landmarks across the country. Showing support for the Armed Forces provides a much-valued morale boost for troops and their families.

Tickets go live for this fantastic event at Hudson’s Field from 10am on Wednesday 15 May – tickets are free and you can apply for tickets for single days or all three by visiting www.wiltshire.gov.uk/salisbury-afd and following the ticket link. The advice is to apply early for tickets as demand is expected to be high.
