Aspire Defence Services – Successful at the PSS Energy Awards 2017

This year Public Sector Sustainability Magazine held the prestigious PSS Energy Awards on 6 December at the London Hilton, Park Lane. The event was attended by over 500 people representing all areas of the energy industry.

The Aspire Defence Services Energy Team had been shortlisted along with four other organisations and were represented at the event by Bradley Lancefield (Energy Data Analyst, pictured 2nd from left) and Ben King (Energy Monitoring Technician, pictured 2nd from right). The team were hoping for success with their submission in the category for ‘Energy Collection and Analysis’.

After a drinks reception and three course meal the awards ceremony began, tension mounting as the Energy Collection category was announced and commentators spoke to the gathering about how impressed the judges had been with the winning submission.

Then came the announcement… Aspire Defence Services had won!

The awards are recognised industry-wide and aim to promote environmental leadership and innovate and inspire all those in the public sector committed to reducing the carbon footprint of their organisation.

Aspire Defence Services manages an estate on behalf of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation which provides the working and living space for over 20,000 people. Heating, lighting, power and transport on this scale of project requires a huge quantity of energy.

We track estate building energy performance through our Energy Team who monitor over 2,500 utility meters, including over 600 automated meter reading (AMR) units. We use advanced energy management software to undertake detailed analysis and produce comprehensive performance reports for Ministry Of Defence teams on the garrisons. Poor performance is highlighted and investigations are undertaken to track down root causes and develop recommendations for improvement.

For Aspire Defence Services success at the 2017 Awards follows on from a win in 2016 for ‘Best Water Management Project’.

Chris Cockerill, Estates Technical Director and Chief Engineer said,

‘This is a really great win for the Aspire Defence Services Energy Team who have been recognised at the PSS Awards for two consecutive years. They have done ADSL proud’
