Congratulations to Army Netball: Team of the Year!

Aspire Defence is delighted to congratulate the Army Netball Women’s Senior Team who took home the Team of the Year title at the 2025 Army Sports Awards — a remarkable achievement that reflects the strength, determination and teamwork of Army sport.

The team’s outstanding record of success includes a seventh consecutive year winning the Inter-Services Championship title, and selection to compete against Malawi – ranked the 7th best team in the world – in a showcase pre-match to the Vitality Nations Netball Cup which was livestreamed to 13,500 fans globally.

A long-standing sponsor of a range of Army sports, Aspire Defence was proud to recognise all the players, coaches and support staff whose hard work and exceptional performance were celebrated at the Awards, which took place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst on 20 November.

Allan Thomson, CEO of Aspire Defence said:

“We are thrilled to see the Army Netball Women’s Senior Team named Team of the Year. Their success, and this recognition, is well deserved.

“Our sponsorship of Army Netball, and of Army sport more widely, is about more than funding — it’s about standing behind the soldiers who give their best every day, and supporting the wellbeing, pride and community spirit that sport brings to Army life.”

Aspire’s commitment to Army sport is underpinned by a shared belief in:

  • Teamwork — the foundation of both successful sport and successful service delivery
  • Resilience — essential for athletes, soldiers, and the teams that support them
  • Leadership — developed through sport and mirrored in Aspire’s people
  • Wellbeing & community — central to Aspire’s mission to improve soldiers’ daily lives

As well as netball, Aspire Defence proudly sponsors a variety of Army sports and associations, reinforcing its commitment to a vibrant, active and resilient Army community.

These include Sapper Cricket, Royal Tank Regiment Football, Army Polo, Army Equitation, Royal Armoured Corps Boxing, Royal Signals Football, Army Fencing and REME cross country running, in addition to being a sponsor of the Awards; this year, Aspire sponsored the Rising Star of the Year Award, which was won by OCdt Milly Wood

Other champions on the night included 9 Theatre Support Battalion REME, based in New Normandy barracks at Aldershot, winners of the Minor Team of the Year in the Army Sports Trophy Competition.

Allan continued:

“Through these partnerships, Aspire helps to fund equipment, venues, development programmes, competitions and recognition events that benefit thousands of serving personnel every year.

“Sport contributes to operational readiness, by building physical fitness and mental resilience, and supports the wellbeing of soldiers and their families as well as strengthen community cohesion and bonds across the Army and it is an area of our support that I am immensely proud to be able to deliver.”
