Pedalling with purpose…again!
Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre is set to make history this November as it hosts an official world record attempt to generate the most electrical energy by pedalling on static bicycles for 24 hours – all in aid of BBC Children in Need.
Aspire Defence CEO Allan Thomson is among those gearing up to take part in the challenge.
From midday on 13 November the sports centre will be alive with energy and community spirit as 50 Wattbikes are pedalled continuously for 24 hours.
Teams and solo riders will take on the challenge in timed sessions of at least 30 minutes, contributing both power and donations to this extraordinary cause.
The Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre “100k Watt Challenge” will bring together the British Army, local businesses, sports clubs, and residents in a shared effort to break a record while raising funds to support children and young people across the UK.
Every penny raised will go directly to BBC Children in Need through the event’s JustGiving page.
Event organiser James Smee said:
“We’re calling on Aldershot and the surrounding communities to bring their energy, teamwork, and generosity to this unique event. Together we’ll aim for a world record and raise vital funds for children who need our support.”
Aspire Defence Limited CEO, Allan Thomson, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to support this event at the heart of the Aldershot Garrison community. It’s a fantastic example of teamwork, determination and generosity coming together to make a real difference. I encourage everyone — businesses, units, clubs and individuals — to get involved, take a turn on the bikes, and help power the effort to support BBC Children in Need.”
Participants can book bike slots ranging from 30 minutes to 24 hours, with live music, a DJ, and entertainment running throughout the day and night to keep morale high. Free drinks and energy snacks will be provided for riders, while a real-time fundraising display will track donations as they grow.
Spectators are encouraged to come along, cheer on the cyclists, and contribute to the total.
