Celebrating Wiltshire sport

Salisbury Journal Sports Awards 2019

Aspire Defence was the principal sponsor of this year’s Salisbury Journal Sports Awards.

Our worthy winner in the ‘Young Achiever of the Year’ category was Lucy-Jane Matthews. Lucy represented Great Britain at the European Youth (Under 18) Athletics Championships in Gyor, Hungary.

At only 15 years old Lucy was the youngest member of the GB Team and the only one still at school. She competed in the 100m hurdles, where she won her heat, came 2nd in the semi-final to automatically qualify for the final where she came 5th, breaking the British record in the process to become the fastest 15-year-old ever in this event in British History.

The event on 22 February at The Stones Hotel in Salisbury was attended by representatives from all three Aspire businesses: Simon Cox (Financial Controller), Abby Boothroyd (HR Advisor) and Emily Palmer (Finance Manager) for Aspire Defence Capital Works; Elliot Seymour (HR Director), David Marsh (Business Development Manager) and Joanne Penny (HS&E Manager) for Aspire Defence Services Limited, and Allan Thomson, Chief Executive of Aspire Defence Limited.

Congratulations to Lucy and all this year’s winners and nominees.
